Last week, to break up my scientific education in hair colouring and also thinning hair, I attended a one day Hair Up/Braiding course.
As you know I already do this but there’s always more to learn.
To my surprise, I was (out of 4 of us – all similar ages) the only hairdresser on the course! This did prove restricting on my behalf as I was frequently waiting around for the others to finish their given tasks.
A conversation I had with one of the ‘non-hairdressing’ students before the course commenced went like this…..
me:
“won’t you find it difficult without having training in the structure & movement of the hair?”
non-hairdresser, (looking at me blankly):
“why? It’s hair-up, anyone can do it!”
Me (Looking at her in astonishment):
“oh! ok!” (Thinking…”we’ll see!”)
After 2 hours of us all working under instruction on block/dolly heads…this is what was said by the others on the course:
Girl 1:
“Oh, I can’t do this!” “I can’t stand up this long, my legs are killing me!” “I need a brew!”
Me thinking…”add another 12 hours on to your day-then see how you feel!”
Girl 2. Simply just tears!! ?
Girl 3 (who had earlier quoted “anyone can do it!):
“I’ve had enough of this (halfway through the style) “I’m sick of it-can I finish now?!”
Me:
“would you say that to a customer”
Girl 3:
“I don’t know how you keep up with it! I take back my words from earlier!”
So there’s an example of how easy it is to put hair up!
PLEASE NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE SKILLS + SCIENTIFIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE HAIR WHICH IS REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE YOUR CHOSEN ‘HAIR-UP’ LOOK.
If you’re looking for your style to be…..
- Fresh, yet Sleek
- Soft & Natural, yet with strength to last all day
- Fabulous when Photographed
I recommend paying for an experienced hair-up trained stylist.
Like I’ve said before:
GREAT WORK AINT CHEAP, CHEAP WORK AINT GREAT!
